Sakhele George Mbatha, a finalist in the Mr, Miss, Ms Deaf South Africa competition, hails from the historic town of Thokoza near Alberton. Born half-deaf, he relied on one ear until it became impaired, leading to full deafness in 2013. Despite facing challenges, Sakhele is determined and does not give up easily. His participation in MDSA is driven by his love for exploring new things and setting a positive example for others. Sakhele aims to raise awareness about the issues faced by the deaf community and hopes to inspire and encourage others through his platform at the MDSA event. While he has yet to be crowned as a MDSA model, Sakhele's hard work, leadership skills, and passion for helping others set him apart from the rest. He believes that participating in the competition will challenge stereotypes and showcase the intelligence and capabilities of deaf individuals. Sakhele looks forward to meeting new people, contributing positively to the MDSA family, and ultimately winning the title to prove that deaf people are truly intelligent and capable. He sees himself becoming a beacon of hope and inspiration for the deaf community in the future.
